Most people enjoy a good salad. In fact, eating vegetables daily is highly encouraged.  Most green salads have lettuce as the main ingredient.  However, many people do not know that despite not having a traditional garden, they can still grow their lettuce using the hydroponic method.

To grow lettuce using this method, you will be required to have the right hydroponic lettuce nutrients in place. These are supplied by the hydroponic medium used to provide similar nutrients that would come from soil.  Hydroponic lettuce nutrient solutions can be made at home, or bought already mixed. The latter is the best way to go.

What Hydroponic Lettuce Nutrient Solution Is Made Of

Unlike in traditional gardening, with hydroponic gardening you have to provide the plants with the needed nutrients yourself. This means that you must have the correct hydroponic lettuce nutrients required to get healthy growth.  Whatever hydroponic lettuce nutrient solutions are selected should be mixed with water to get just the right balance.

It can consist of vermiculate, sand, gravel, and water.  You need to ensure that your solution has the right pH in order for the plants to grow well.  The hydroponic lettuce nutrient solution will be made of calcium nitrate and Epsom salt.  For each 5 gallons of water, you should have two teaspoons of the calcium nitrate and one teaspoon of the Epsom salts.

Other Conditions To Consider

In order for your lettuce plants to thrive in the medium provided and to properly absorb the hydroponic lettuce nutrients you have provided via the hydroponic lettuce nutrient solution, the temperature must be right. This is generally around 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

Additionally, you need to ensure that your plants get adequate water.  In order to get optimum results, you need to plan on watering them thrice in one day. You need to make sure that your plants are getting adequate sunlight.  This is a must have in order to have your plants absorb and process the hydroponic lettuce nutrients provided.  If your garden is indoors, you may have to employ the use of grow lights to ensure the same effect.

In additional to the need for hydroponic lettuce nutrients, the water levels and the ph of your solutions should be constant. Moreover, although they shouldn't cause big problems, be sure to keep an eye out for pests.  It will only take a month before you can be able to eat your lettuce.Happy gardening!
